The Shackleton Foundation is delighted to announce a new partnership with the Treebeard Trust, which has committed £15,000 per annum for three years to support the Foundation’s mission of investing in early‑stage social entrepreneurs helping disadvantaged young people.
This multi‑year funding will strengthen the Shackleton Foundation’s ability to provide seed funding, advice, and long‑term support to “Shackleton Leaders” who are in the early stages of launching a social venture (the first mile). What sets us apart from other funders is the organisations we support are often considered too risky or too early-stage. True to the spirit of Shackleton himself, we take calculated risks in providing support at the start helping social enterprises to tackle major social issues across five themes: youth offending, education and attainment, life skills and employability, community cohesion.
The Treebeard Trust’s commitment ensures that more emerging changemakers can access the early catalytic support they need to grow sustainable, high‑impact ventures.
“We are thrilled to receive this generous support from the Treebeard Trust. Their support for transformational initiatives which have the potential to create a healthier planet, and a fairer society aligns perfectly with our mission to transform the lives of disadvantaged young people in the UK. This funding will enable us to back even more exceptional Leaders who are improving lives across the UK,” said Charlotte Hatfield, Chair Shackleton Foundation.
“We are delighted to be entering a new partnership with the Shackleton Foundation. The core of what we do is to back talented, purpose-driven entrepreneurs at the start of their journey. Shackleton’s mission aligns closely with our own and what they, and the “Shackleton Leaders”, have achieved, with fairly modest resources, is hugely impressive.” Barnaby Wiener, Founder & Trustee Treebeard Trust.
The Shackleton Foundation continues to honour the legacy of Sir Ernest Shackleton by supporting individuals who demonstrate resilience, leadership, and a commitment to positive social change. This new grant will play a vital role in expanding that impact over the coming years.
