Grant Awarded 6 May 2026

Murhad Hussain is an athlete, entrepreneur and IOC Young Leader, one of only 25 selected globally and the only representative from Great Britain in his cohort. Having experienced first-hand how sport can create confidence, discipline and opportunity, Murhad is now using table tennis to help others unlock their potential.

He is the founder of SpinLab, a community-focused venture delivered through The Table Tennis Project CIC, which aims to create Aberdeen’s first full-time table tennis facility. SpinLab will provide affordable access to sport, youth coaching, wellbeing programmes and pathways for young people to develop skills, confidence and ambition.

Thanks to the Shackleton Foundation funding a minimum of 30 young people from low-income backgrounds will receive subsidised or fully funded access in Year 1, delivered through concessionary session rates, funded camp places, and a partnership with local schools and community organisations. Through SpinLab, Murhad is building an inclusive space where people from all backgrounds can thrive, while tackling inequality and improving opportunities for young people across the North East of Scotland.
